The UNE Geoscience Society's first AGM is being held in August! We will be having dinner at the Whitebull before holding the AGM both in-person and online in Gather Town. Dinner will be from 6:30 - 7:30pm, with the AGM officially opening at 7:30pm. Complimentary meals to the value of $30 are available at dinner, with online attendees going into the draw to win one of three $50 vouchers. If you are interested in joining our committee, please email us at unegs@myune.edu.au. We have several roles available that include: Treasurer Events Coordinator Sponsorship Officer Social Media Coordinator Online Student Representative General Committee member Places at the dinner are limited with members having first dibs (membership is free), so please make sure you book your spot if you plan to attend in-person!

Emil is a master’s student researching sharks from the middle Cretaceous of Australia. 100 million years ago, the vast Eromanga Seaway covered much of the Australian continent and hosted a diverse community of marine fauna, including sharks preserved through an extensive fossil record of their teeth. Come along to learn what sharks can tell us about Australia’s past and volunteer opportunities to pick vertebrate microfossils. Emil will present their seminar live in EM2 and online in Gathertown.

Get ready for an epic adventure right here on campus! 🤩 The UNE Geoscience Society is thrilled to invite you to a special screening of Journey to the Centre of the Earth on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025! Prepare to descend into a world of thrilling wonder and excitement as we follow Professor Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser), his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson), and their Icelandic guide Hannah (Anita Briem) on their perilous expedition deep beneath the Earth's surface! Think mind-blowing CGI dinosaurs, dazzling crystal caves, and subterranean seas– all brought to life with a modern twist, from the comfort of your seat! We'll be providing delicious, FREE pizza 🍕 to fuel your journey, so you won't have to worry about a thing except enjoying the show. This event is fully catered, but we need your help to make sure everyone is taken care of. To secure your free ticket and let us know about any dietary requirements, please register by July 30th. Your early registration helps us ensure we order enough pizza for everyone and accommodate all dietary needs! Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or have any other requests, just let us know when you grab your ticket. The movie will be screened right here on the University of New England campus, located at 114 Madgwick Drive, Armidale, NSW 2351. Miocene Plants of Barraba - Volunteering opportunity!

Join Tom Carter to hear all about his PhD project on Miocene plants found in diatomite at Barraba. This event will be held on campus in the EM2 lecture theatre, and online in Gather Town. He has an amazing opportunity for volunteers to join him on fieldwork later this year, so be sure to come along and find out how you can get involved.
